The SUEcialite: Bakit Nga Ba PUP?!
Mula sa Opinion ni Arasacha Elisha S. Bernardo
Mga dahilan bakit PUP pa rin ang MAS pinipili:
Maraming ibigsabihin ang P-U-P. Una na diyan ang Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Untouchableito. Galawin mo? Ay, good luck sa iyo.
PAHIRAP ULI PAHIRAP
Uso yan.
EETAP? Pwedeng otap nalang? O tap on the back?! Dahil top 15 nationwide at top 5 pag sa usaping matematika, siyensiya at iba pa.Hindilang First Polytechnic U tayo. First Virtual Universiry rin na sponsored ng DOSTat DBM. Saan ka pa?!
Kaya siguro PUP ulit PUP ang nasasabi ng karamihan. Paulit-ulit? Repeat-repeat? Again-again?! All over again?! PUP, pipilahan uli pipilahan, papasukan uli papasukan at pauunlarin uli Pilipinas. Ano ba?! PUP nga! :)

Mainstream Issues and a Take on One's Priorities
By Faith Yangyang
Almost everyone in the country is talking about the same topic. Just like all the other trends that go viral in a matter of weeks annually, netizens and words on the street tackle the same thing today--the all beaten up Vhong Navarro.
Vhong was said to be beaten up on the condominium of a "casual friend" last January 22. Just like every other story, there are two sides in it. His side states that he was framed and beaten up like crazy, reasons are not clearly stated why. He has allowed an interview regarding the matter on "Buzz ng Bayan" last Sunday. Meanwhile, the other party claims that the actor is guilty for attempted rape.
All these are just backgrounders, however. What I would like to talk about today is not whether he has attempted rape or not, or if he is in the right or wrong. Rather, I would like to /rant/ about the credibility in the dissemination of information, as well as the incessant highlight of the media regarding the matter.
We have been kept updated on the dot, and an enormous amount of posts are blocking our Facebook feed about everyone's "truth" and opinion. A lot of people are either being sympathetic, some think it's karma, and some rant about the media's priorities.
Sure it's never good news that someone is beaten up. Violence was never a good thing. Especially if it's done on a famous person. But is it really worth all the attention?
This is not the first time that such viral trends invaded the online feed of everyone, if we will recall, there's the case about Amalayer as well as a numerous amount of scandals from famous personalities. An either patriotic or hypocritic netizen shall leave a certain comment on a certain article which says "Instead of this, shouldn't we just feature the bigger problems of the country?"
I would just cut this short and leave the rest of the matter to your imagination. The gray area I'm pointing about here is not only the media's priorities, but also yours. Whether you were sympathetic or against the man, whether you think the media's right in highlighting this matter or not, point is, it is inevitable that you have been reached by the news. Should it really have affected you the way it did? Why do these trends continue to be highlighted one after the other? Is it the fault of the media for continuing to feed us with these kinds of things, or ours for patronizing it? Is ranting about this all ending in vain? Ah. The gray area.

An Attempt to Define the Adage
By Faith Yangyang
I was a lowly little child the first time I heard the saying, “No man is an Island”. Being the child that I am and the innocence I claim to the world, I wondered what its definition is.
I remember my father saying “It means that we are interdependent to each other.” I nodded. Yes, we can do certain things alone but we should admit to ourselves that not all.
I asked myself years later if the term that refers to the giving of each other hands in order to fasten or finish a certain task is called cooperation. And yes, it is.
Cooperation—a word that is easily said but hardly defined. Cooperation is what we need to succeed. And unfortunately, that is what we lack.
Philippines, comprised of 7,107 islands, more or less 80 million people, one president and one dream—to succeed. But why can’t we attain it?
As a normal citizen in the society, I can easily blame the government for the impediment of the success that every one of us desire. But at least once, have we even thought of our own selves to blame? Well, sorry to break the ice surrounding on your minds, but yes, we are also the ones at fault.
One example is the giving of the officials money and receiving of the “innocent” people during elections every now and then. Offer here, offer there. Accept here, accept there. Why does the counting of votes take a lot of time? Why are there brownouts?
Another one is our very-well acknowledged mentalities: Colonial Mentality or the love for other country’s work, culture and passion. It can possibly be the reason why our country isn’t succeeding at present—because we love the work of others more than ours. Crab Mentality or the pulling of every other man’s legs so that only the puller himself shall succeed. Every Filipino thinks only of himself, the succession of not thy countrymen and country per se but he himself and himself only. If we thought through it, we can assume that we are richer if majority is poorer.
And lastly, the natural attitude of Filipinos toward being hard-headed. Isn’t it that for the majority of us, we would like to do the forbidden things because it’s much more comfy?
There might be attempted answers in the back of my brain regarding the matter. But from my own view, it is too soon to disclose and too vague to argue upon. Therefore I'd leave it here hanging, just like how it actually is.

Eat. You are Human.
By Arasacha Elisha S. Bernardo
You might have heard about anorexia and bulimia. What about if you are conscious on eating healthy that it disrupts your lifestyle? That my friend is, ORTHOREXIA, it is a new eating disorder of the millennia.
There is definitely nothing wrong about having a healthy and fit diet but if you are going too much downing on wheat grass and not on a balanced omnivore diet. You might be missing a lot.
Imagine that you are not a goat forever, you need your meats. You need not to shut all of the food groups in your meals. Shutting down, a system of fats will make you binge for more in the future with the deprivation that you have done.
According to the Noom Weight Loss App available in Google Playstore, the key to losing weight is through Volumetrics. This is tricking your body that it is full through eating lots of green foods that are indeed satisfying, low in calories and prevents further surge of appetite. Green foods are fruits and vegetables. They allow you to satisfy your tummy with the least amount of calories so that you won’t exceed your daily recommended allowance.
So imagine this you are eating fewer calories and burning more through lots of exercise and other physical activities. That’s a better option than just punishing yourself with a lifetime decision to skip all the meats every time you crave such.
Just bear this in mind; you are not a plant to just water diet forever. You are not a t-rex to just eat chunks of meats too. You are human. You need to eat a variety and enjoy your life.

Selphie. Born Ahead of Her Time.
By Arasacha Elisha S. Bernardo
“...I... I did it, everyone...! I know the stage got destroyed, but I performed... My dream band... I was able to carry out my dream...”
—Selphie Tilmitt at Trabia's cemetery, talking to the graves of some of her friends.
Who is Selphie? For gamers, I bet you know her. Selphie Tilmitt is seen first and heard in Final Fantasy VIII. She is the queen bee of her school joining every activity she could grab especially in the Garden Festival. What’s funny is that she runs the school website. In other words she is like a social networking queen, a Mark Zuckerberg of her time although she exists virtually.
Remembering her is like…a great realization. This game was created like a year before the new millennium. But imagine how the name Selphie turned into Selfie.
We know use Selfie, as taking pictures of oneself and posting it in social media when Selphie has used it more than a decade ago.
There is no guarantee to which came first. Obviously that it took quite a long time for the Selfie Peeps to be accepted in today’s society. Now, the shortened Self-Portraits term is coined and prevailing everywhere trying to contour a new filter of teens and old alike.
I guess we are all like Selphie, building dream through Selfies.

YOU MAKE ME
By Arasacha Elisha S. Bernardo
All my Life
I’ve been
I’ve been
Waiting for someone like you Yeah!!!
An excerpt from the lyrics of “You Make Me of Avicii”
Indeed, the long wait is over. We are now introduced to the hippest genre of electro, disco flavor and synthesizers. Sounds totally new right? It is electromechanical music made through a computer. So sans instruments or great voice, you can produce some great poppin’ music.
It is more than Madonna’s likes but ever heard of 3OH!3, Kerli, Swedish House Mafia, Lady Gaga, Duck Sauce, Ellie Goulding and Avicii. The market has a lot more bands and other groups to offer. It is up to you to choose from them! Burn! You can recognize these songs as having the Last Song Syndrome in them, the ability known by our age to memorize the tone of the song or even lyrics that it occurs in your mind repeatedly like a song in repeated shuffled manner.
The domination of cool rhythms consist the disco haven it produces. I guess it is not so much about the lyrics anymore compared in the past like that of Frank Sinatra’s My Way or People are People by Barbara Streisand.
